Book review – The Zen of CSS Design

“The Zen of CSS design”

The Zen of CSS Design: Visual Enlightenment for the Web (Voices That Matter) to give it it’s full title is authored by Dave Shea and Molly Holzschlag – two stalwarts of modern web design. It’s essentially a deep dive into modern techniques that should be used when designing and building websites. It’s aimed at the professional web designers and coder, however it does also work as a useful history lesson and book of inspiration for the less tech-savvy.

Software review – CannyBill

CannyBill is a great bit of kit designed specifically for freelancers and those running small businesses. Made by Geordie’s (so made in the UK), this is one of the most user friendly and well tough-out billing systems I’ve seen.

The key tenets of their design approach seem to have been simplicity and functionality, as everything is well laid out and easy to access.

Adviser Twitter feed

Mucking about with things is how I learn best and one thing I like doing is building mash-ups, whereby I crash together two things to create something new. If that something new is also useful, then all the better, but normally it’s simply for the learning. So in the spirit of building a (possibly useless) mash-up, I’ve devised “Adviser feed“.
