Twitter + Compliance = Rocky road?
Twitter has got to be the bane of a compliance officer’s life. Control, order and regulation crumbles away in the face of it’s social, viral and instant communication methods. However there are things that an adviser can do to stave off the compliance officer’s wrath. This article aims to produce some practical advice for financial advisers on how to use social media and keep on the right side of compliance.

Adviser Twitter feed
Mucking about with things is how I learn best and one thing I like doing is building mash-ups, whereby I crash together two things to create something new. If that something new is also useful, then all the better, but normally it’s simply for the learning. So in the spirit of building a (possibly useless) mash-up, I’ve devised “Adviser feed“.

Let’s get this out of the way: Twitter is not a broadcast mechanism. It’s a way of engaging with other people in conversation about topics that interest your and that other person. It’s like a modern-day instant messaging service, but more immediate and public.

Social Media in Financial Services
Would have loved to have gone to the Social Media in Financial Services conference, but sadly couldn’t make it. However as if to support the message of using social media in the industry the internet is awash with comment and write-ups on the event.
Of course the ubiquitous Twitter comes into it’s own via the use of the #socialmediafs hashtag from people at and around the conference itself, proving that word of mouth and technology can work together.

So overall it seems to have been a success and it’s good to see these kind of topics being discussed and dragging what is sometimes a very dry and backwards facing industry, albeit belatedly, into the modern world.
